The first step for any Trooper or Cadet applicant is the Applicant Orientation, an open-house orientation conducted by members of the Recruitment Staff. During the Applicant Orientation you will learn much more about the Maryland State Police through discussions and video presentations. You will also have the opportunity to ask questions to decide if the Maryland State Police is right for you.
All Applicant Orientations begin promptly at 7:00 p.m.
****UNDER MPTC REGULATIONS EACH CANDIDATE MUST BE ABSENT OF CONTROLLED DANGEROUS SUBSTANCE USE (3) THREE YEARS PRIOR TO APPLICANT ORIENTATION****
You should arrive on time and plan to spend three hours at the Applicant Orientation. Appropriate business attire (a jacket and tie for men and a pant suit or skirt for women) is expected. Please do not arrive in casual attire such as khakis or jeans as you will not be admitted.
Please be sure to bring the following items when you attend:
-
A Black Pen
-
A Note Pad
-
Your Valid Driver's License
-
Please come prepared knowing your Social Security Number
If you live more than 5 hours away from the State of Maryland, please go to the Out of State Applicant Information page.
When you have chosen the date and location, arrive on time and appropriately attired.
There is no need to contact the Recruitment Unit prior to attending your Applicant Orientation.
NOTE: The Applicant Orientation will be cancelled due to inclement weather when the Snow Emergency Plan is placed into effect for the entire State, or in the county where the Applicant Orientation is being held. All announcements for cancellations will be posted on this page, the main Career page.
